Faded

    An old man so lonely

    sitting in his room

    A single paned window
    he looks out of
A brick wall his only view

    A thread bare sweater
    covers this frail man

    He shivers in the darkness

    Loneliness
    the only thing he commands

    A black and white portrait
    hangs upon his wall

    A tragic reminder
    of his life's unfinished plans

    A memory comes haunting
    gently takes his hand

    Leading him through the landscape
of the life he used to have

He stares at a dirty mirror
    seeing another man

One who smiles and is laughing
    until disappointment rears it head

    A fireplace filled with ashes
    used to share its warmth

Just like his brittle heart did
before it froze up on itself

A light bulb that burned so bright
    is flickering in the hall

    Slowly dimming like his life
until there is no light left at all
