Nocturnal
An old barn owl hoots into the night
his cries echo in the wind
A little field mouse runs and scampers
hiding, he shivers beneath the grass and twigs
The full moon rises in the sky
casting shadows with its light
The old barn owl stretches, spreads his wings
takes his hunt into the night
The lone coyote barks at the moon
he calls his friends to join the hunt
A frightened hare bounds through the fields
the coyote chasing, howls with delight
A young buck standing in the grass
rears its head and sniffs the air
The scent of fresh water running
draws him towards the river's edge
Beneath the cover of the dark
the wild things come to life
Dancing to the sounds of nature
while men sleep away the night
